Your friends move round so he can be next to you and you think ohhh. I didn’t want to be next to him.
He pats the sofa and says come sit next to me and you say nothing, and don’t move.
You look at him, confused and annoyed, thinking why are you still in my house?
He kisses you and touches your face, and you think get the fuck off my face.
He puts his arm around you, and all you can think is why are you touching me?
You watch him at the bar and think your jeans make you look like a midget.
His friends all know about you, and you think what the hell have you been saying?
You’re relieved when he leaves.
So yeah. If you’ve done any of the above, it’s probably safe to say your relationship is fucked. Doomed. Not going anywhere. And you hate him.
And I’ll bet before those feelings of disgust was contempt. A relationship can survive a great many things, but not contempt. If your partner ever sneers at you then know it’s time to pack up and call it a day.
